China’s packaging industry in recent years

With a production volume of 40 billion sqm of corrugated board, China became the world’s largest producer of this material. Paper packaging made up about 38 percent, the largest portion, of the total packaging industry. In 2011, the production value of the packaging industry reached RMB 1.4 trillion (USD 220.4 billion). Paper packaging still accounted for about 38 percent of the entire industry.
Liu Shousheng, Secretary of the China Packaging Federation’s Paper Packaging Committee, predicts that the growth rate of the paper product packaging industry, in the second half of 2012, will be between 12 and 15 percent, based on an average increase rate of 18 to 20 percent over recent years.
